The Red is the first album to be released by Red Velvet. It was released on September 9, 2015. The album features 10 tracks and the title track is entitled "Dumb Dumb". Teaser images and videos were released from both their Instagram account and the SMTOWN Youtube channel. Prior to the release, the group has held a "comeback showcase" through the Naver V-Live app in a broadcast entitled "Red VS Velvet" to promote and discuss the various concepts in the album.
This album focuses on the "Red" image of the group. On March 2, 2016, the company revealed that Red Velvet will release The Velvet album to follow their first album promotions.
The group began comeback promotions of "Dumb Dumb" (with the inclusion of "Huff n Puff" stages on the first week) on September 10 on M Countdown.
Reception and commercial performance[]
The music video for "Dumb Dumb" debuted at #1 on YinYueTai's V-Chart Korea. It is also the most viewed k-pop video in America and worldwide for the month of September. In December, "Dumb Dumb" was included in Rolling Stone's "10 Best Music Videos of 2015" at 9th place, praising the video for its "distinct aesthetic and muted palate". Noisey stated that it's "perhaps the strongest top-to-bottom K-pop album to date", praising its "daredevil song forms, harmonies richer and smarter than anything on western dials in a quarter-century, and nonstop virtuoso songsmith hooks—without so much as a single English inflection out of place". Billboard also included it in their "10 Best K-Pop Albums of 2015" and called it "one of the year's most enjoyable and experimental pop LPs.
